Electric Ireland thanked for scrapping greyhound racing discounts
15 March 2018
A big thank you to Electric Ireland for scrapping a greyhound racing discount offer. The company had been offering the "50% off admission for a night at the dogs" discount as part of its "Rewards" programme but after an appeal from ICABS and contact from concerned customers, the offer has now ended.
Also removed was a competition to win greyhound racing vouchers.
In an email to an ICABS supporter, an Electric Ireland representative wrote: "I can confirm that Electric Ireland has reviewed all of our partnerships. We no longer offer Rewards for the Irish Greyhound Board."
In our appeal to Electric Ireland, we highglighted the injuries and deaths at tracks around Ireland (357 greyhounds injured during races last year and 124 destroyed by track vets), the illegal drugging of dogs to affect the outcome of races and the dumping and killing of dogs who are too slow to win races.
ACTION ALERT
Join us in thanking Electric Ireland for scrapping the greyhound racing competition and discounts.

Please don't attend greyhound races or fund-raisers held at greyhound tracks (these are a significant source of funding for the greyhound industry).
The cruel and crumbling greyhound industry has received nearly a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers' money since 2001 (including €16 million for 2018). Urge Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe to end funding to the greyhound industry and instead direct the money to charities and other deserving causes. Email "Stop funding the cruel greyhound industry" to taoiseach@taoiseach.gov.ie, leo.varadkar@oireachtas.ie, paschal.donohoe@oireachtas.ie, minister@per.gov.ie
