Cavan urged to reject cruel hare coursing
15 November 2013
Please join us in urging Cavan to reject cruel hare coursing. At a coursing meeting in the county this weekend, hares will be forced to run for their lives in front of greyhounds.
ICABS is urging local politicians to show compassion for the hares and condemn the cruelty.
We have brought to their attention details of the suffering caused to hares in coursing - see Coursing Cruelty Catalogue 2013.
We have also invited them to view video footage showing the cruelty of hare coursing in Ireland.
"Cavan's hosting of coursing (an illegal activity in all our neighbouring jurisdictions) is a damaging blemish on the county's valuable image," we stated. "Coursing is a form of animal cruelty in which defenceless hares - violently netted from the wild - are used as live lures for greyhounds."
We added: "Disturbingly, the Cavan coursing meeting will again be accommodating hare coursers from Northern Ireland who would face prosecution there if they engaged in the same cruelty."
ACTION ALERT
Urge County Cavan Councillors, Cavan Town Council and Cavan/Monaghan TDs to show compassion for the Irish Hare and speak out against cruel coursing.
